Jewish children told to hide identity amid safety fears, royal commission hears

Jewish children are being told to turn off phone location services and remove religious symbols before travelling to youth camps, a royal commission has heard.
A Jewish youth camp leader in her early twenties, who can only be identified as Witness ACV, spoke to the Royal Commission into anti-Semitism and Social Cohesion from Melbourne on Wednesday, and told of her experience working with Jewish children from ages eight to 18.
The young woman told the commission she volunteered with a youth movement she described as “an inclusive and compassionate space for participants to become informed young Jewish adults”, providing education and social camps for young Jewish people.
She explained how many children did not understand the depths of the bullying and anti-Semitic attacks they had experienced.
